Türkiye’nin en büyük yüzölçümüne sahip olan Konya ilinin bu potansiyeli tarımsal faaliyetler için avantaj oluşturmaktadır. Çeşitli türde bitkisel üretim gerçekleşmektedir. Konya Ovasında genellikle tahıl tarımı ve sebzecilik yapılırken, nispeten eğimli arazilerde meyveciliğin önem kazandığı dikkat çekmektedir. Özellikle Akdeniz Bölgesi sınırları içinde yer alan ilçelerde meyve yetiştiriciliğinin tarımda önemli yere sahip olduğu görülmektedir. Konya ilinde 19 çeşit meyve üretimi yapılmaktadır. Bunları elma, kiraz, vişne, armut, erik, ceviz, badem, kayısı, şeftali, dut, ayva, iğde, Antep fıstığı, nektarin, zerdali, nar, muşmula, üzüm, çilek oluşturmaktadır. Konya ilinde üretim miktarları bakımından ilk sıralarda elma, üzüm, kiraz, vişne ve çilek yer alırken, ağaç sayısı bakımından ilk sıralarda elma, kiraz, vişne ve armut yer almaktadır. Konya ilinde en fazla yetiştirilen meyve elma olup, ağaç sayısı bakımından Türkiye elma ağacı sayısının % 10’una (6.461.735 adet), üretimin ise % 6 (230.882 ton)’sına sahiptir. Dünya kiraz üretim miktarında 2019 yılı itibariyle 724.944 ton ile Türkiye ilk sırada yer almaktadır. Konya ili ise 1.916.611 adet kiraz ağacı sayısı ve 64.086 ton üretim miktarı ile Türkiye birincisidir.
