Abstract:

The continued issue of "concept of tradition and use of tradition" in Turkish literature has become a problem, especially from the Tanzimat period to the Republic period. In these periods, as well as those who have been feeding from tradition, there are also writers who are opposed to tradition, and many writers are still living tradition among today's writers. The tradition, which is a controversial concept, has been shaped by different effects in each period. One of the latter poets who has been deeply nutritied by the tradition and who has lived it in a unique way is Mehmet Ragıp Karcı (1945-2020). Mehmet Ragıp Karcı is among the poets who have successfully interpreted the tradition in divan poetry, folk poetry and folklore and contemporary Turkish poetry and lived in the modern era. In this study, the traces of the Turkish poetry tradition will be investigated in the book Tut Elimden Don't Fall (1998-2006), which covers the collective poems of Mehmet Ragıp Karcı. First, the definition of the tradition and the identification of the elements of the tradition in the Turkish poetry will be made. The need for divan poetry will be revealed in the poems of the people, the folklore and the reflections and effects of the Islamic motives, Karcı's poems.
