Abstract:

Abstract In this study, it is aimed to determine how the effort to dominate madness in Turkish cinema is shaped. For this purpose, the top three most watched movies in Turkey between 2000 and 2019 were determined. In this direction, the representations of madness in the films Vizontele (2001), Mucize (2015) and Yedinci Koğuştaki Mucize (2019) are discussed in the context of body, power and power structure. In this study, which is based on a hermeneutic approach, the case study model, one of the qualitative research designs, was used and the films were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. As a result of the analysis, the characters defined as crazy in the movies live in the society; but it has been seen as humiliated, ridiculed and stigmatized by the normally constructed power/intelligence. However, these characters are represented as naive, innocent, helpless, powerless and funny. This showed the power and superiority of the normal ones; has constructed a form of separation and stigma. In addition, it has been revealed that the insane in the movies are removed from the limits of the mind in terms of being both men and representing a defective body, and they experience a kind of loss of power by losing masculine power. However, it has been understood that it is possible to control the society by excluding the insane, and it has been determined that insanity is used metaphorically for the construction of the normal.
