Abstract:

Social responsibility is expressed as a concept that makes society and business more valuable. For this reason, social responsibility activities emerge as an area that allows the business and society to meet at a common point. When social responsibility activities are examined historically, foundations emerge as a concept that can replace this concept in the past. The foundation is meant to” remove the property of the individual from his or her property by his or her free will for a purpose". The aim of this article is to investigate the relationship between social responsibility activities today and the activities of foundations during the Ottoman period. In this study, it is explained whether the activities carried out in the context of the present conception of Social Responsibility and the foundation conception in the Ottoman period coincide with each other and whether there are similar aspects. In the first part of the study, sense of social responsibility, sense of social responsibility in Turkey were examined in the second part in all aspects. In the third section, the foundations of the Ottoman period are discussed, the historical development of foundations and the importance given to foundations in the Ottoman period are explained. As a result of this retrospective study, it was observed that there are similarities between today's Social Responsibility activities and the activities of foundations that played an active role in the context of Social Responsibility during the Ottoman period, although there is not a complete overlap, the various activities carried out have similar characteristics and some activities have similar aims.
