Abstract:

Health-related issues are one of the most striking subjects in terms of both individuals and the media. In addition to many developments experienced in today's modern societies, new risk factors that are different from traditional societies are also encountered, and some of these risk factors include health-related risks. Although the main function of health news is to convey information about health, the concepts in the news can have an impact on individuals' perceptions of health risks. Based on this assumption, the health news published in Hürriyet and Posta newspapers for one year were analyzed through the content analysis method. In both newspapers examined, it was observed that the news without the concept of risk was higher than the news used. In the news in which the concept of risk was used, it was seen that the concept was used more than once. In addition to these findings, it was found that the concepts of “trouble, problem, harm, and loss” and medical jargon are frequently used, but nearly half of these jargons are not explained in daily terms, and there are significant differences between in terms of referencing in the news.
