Abstract:

In the reach of the public of science, the analysis of the media, which is one of the basic resources in the public's understanding of science, how it translates science, the identification of its problematic fields, is important for scientific communication. This study, which acts with the recognition that scientific journalism is a very important mission, has the most tirage in Turkey between 1 October and 14 October 2019; the scientific news in Sabah, Sözcü, Hürriyet and Posta newspapers have been studied. The subject of the study is how science is presented in the scientific news published in the newspapers in Turkey, which news is transmitted as scientific news and their connection to scientific reality. It is believed that the work is meaningful in order to understand, analyze and contribute to new ideas for the solution of problematic areas. In the study, the method of content analysis was used. A total of 3981 reports have been identified. 100 of them have scientific knowledge. These news were analyzed in 5 main categories and 40 subcategories. According to the findings and results of the study; that only 2.51 per cent of the total number of news in the journals being studied is scientific news, the conclusion was that in Turkey science, in terms of written press, does not carry news value. The newspapers are not only quantitative, but also poor in the field of scientific information. The sensational, surprising and exaggerated use of language in scientific news, the preference of what is surprising and absurd rather than rational information shows that the magazine style is also preferred in scientific news.
