Abstract:

The aim of our study is to determine the post-chirurgical visual prognosis in our traumatic cataracts and to study the factors affecting the level of vision. Patients under surgery due to traumatic cataracts between December 2007 and December 2010 were examined retrospective. For all patients age, gender, type of injury, time between injury and cataract surgery, surgery technique, the condition of the front and rear capsule, the loss of the vitre, the type and location of the intracular lens placed, the post-operative tracking time and well corrected vision accuracy were recorded. The clinical characteristics of the cases were assessed in terms of these parameters. The study included 16 eyes of 16 patients aged 4 to 77 (14 men and 2 women). In 2 of the patients there was closed cornea perforation, in 11 only cornea perforation and in 3 cornea-skleral perforation. A cataract surgery was carried out on an average of 21.9 (1-120) days after the primary repair. In 2 patients the intraocular lens was not placed, while in other patients the lens was placed in the capsule or sulkuse. The patient's post-operative average tracking time was 6.5 (1-17) months, and the well-corrected vision accuracy in the last check was 0.49 Snellen. There is no ideal surgical technique and timing for traumatic cataract surgery. Each phenomenon must be assessed and properly planned. In the light of this information, in the vast majority of the facts in our study, satisfactory results have been obtained in terms of the accuracy of seeing the results.
