Abstract:

Self-efficacy, which includes people's beliefs about their ability to organize and exhibit actions to achieve a certain performance, is important for the science course to achieve its goals. This research aims to conduct the validity and reliability study of the self-efficacy scale developed for the science course. The research was carried out based on the survey design of the quantitative research method. The sample of the study consisted of 628 students from different education levels studying in four different secondary schools in the Melikgazi district of Kayseri province. To ensure the content validity of the applied self-efficacy scale, a pool of questions based on the literature was created, draft scale items were determined and expert control was provided. The reliability coefficients of the scale factors developed with the criterion study were interpreted and the validity of the criterion was checked. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes were performed to ensure construct validity. As a result of the validity and reliability analysis, a three-factor structure with a Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0,67 was obtained. Suggestions were made in light of the research results.
