Greenwashing can be defined as a strategy where companies give false or incomplete information about their environmental behaviors to their customers. This paper aims to discuss greenwashing and contribute to the formalizing of the Turkish equivalent of it by looking at its use in Turkish academic studies. Firstly, green marketing, greenwashing, and the types of greenwashing will be explained. Then academic studies on greenwashing, that were published and/or accepted until April 2022 in Turkey, will be examined. This examining process includes the obtained literature, which consists of twenty-nine studies. The findings show that, in terms of usage frequency and word meaning, the term “yeşil aklama” can be used instead of greenwashing in Turkish. It is thought that the use of a Turkish expression will create a more concrete phenomenon in the minds of consumers and marketing experts, thus contributing to awareness and environmental consciousness.
