Abstract:

International literature indicates that each of the individual’s conditions in the labour market (not participating in the labour market, unemployed or unemployed) and income levels have an impact on the objective or perceived health conditions. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the situation of the labour market in Turkey, the employment as well as the material shortage and the perceptible health status of income. In order to these objectives, the Income and Living Conditions Surveys conducted by TÜIK between 2006 and 2017 have used micro data and a sequential logistics regression analysis method. The findings of the analysis show that, as it is in registered employment in the labour market, being in unregistered employment, participating in the labour market and unemployment conditions have a negative impact on the detected health status. While an increase in income level has a positive impact on the detected health condition, the negative impact of being in material shortage on the detected health condition is negative. In the context of the findings from the research, it can be said that the participation in the labour market and registered employment will be increased; policies to reduce unemployment and financial shortages will improve the health conditions individuals perceive.
