Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the mediating roles of fear of being punished and conditional performance depending on reward expectation in the effect of functional/dysfunctional parental attitudes on high school students' burnout due to parents. The research was in quantitative design and was conducted on 462 high school students. In the first stage of the research, two original measurement tools (with mother and father parallel forms for each) were developed to be used in measuring parents' functional and dysfunctional attitudes in the academic context for high school students. Then, the mediating roles of fear of punishment and conditioned performance based on reward expectation in the effect of parental functional and dysfunctional attitudes towards the academic context on high school students' family-related burnout were examined. According to the results of the structural model, it was determined that the conditional performance related to reward expectation and fear of being punished played a partial mediation role in the relationship between discouraging and demoralizing intervention, and burnout due to parents. It was also found that parental functional attitude towards the academic context directly predicted burnout due to parents.
