Abstract:

At present, it is prominent for teachers to closely follow the developments in their fields by using information technologies and by integrating technology and teaching methods in a meaningful way in the light of contemporary approaches and to reflect them on their education processes. In this research, developing a valid and reliable measurement tool in order to determine the core technological competencies of teachers is aimed at. Within the scope of the research, three common main dimensions were determined by drawing on similar studies in the literature and a draft item pool of 42 items was created. Research data were collected from two different groups. A total of 578 teachers, 281 in the first stage and 297 in the second stage, participated in the study. In the analysis of the data, item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, first and second level confirmatory factor analysis were performed and reliability coefficients were calculated. As a result of item analysis and EFA, a 28-item scale consisting of three sub-dimensions was obtained. Findings obtained as a result of CFA showed that the scale had an acceptable fit. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient, which was calculated as .96 for the reliability of the scale, revealed that the scale was quite reliable. In line with these findings, it can be stated that the Teachers' Core Competences in the Use of Technology Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to measure the core competences of teachers in the use of technology.
