1914 yılında başlayan 1.Dünya Savaşı 1918 yılına kadar devam etmiştir. Savaşın başlamasının asıl sebebi sanayileşmenin ortaya çıkmasıyla meydana gelen sömürgecilik, hammadde yarışını yanı sıra devletlerin silahlanma yarışı ve devletler arasındaki bloklaşma yarışı savaşın temel nedenlerini oluşturmuştur. Dünya savaşı olarak adlandırılmasının nedeni ise dünyadaki bütün devletlerin savaşa girmesi değil, savaşın ortaya çıkardığı sonuçlar tüm dünya devletlerini olumlu ya da olumsuz etkilemesinden dolayı bu isimle anılmıştır. Osmanlı Devleti de bu devletlerden biridir. Savaş Avrupa’da patlak vermesine rağmen stratejik bir konuma sahip olan Osmanlı Devleti kendini İttifak Gurubunun yanında savaşın ortasında bulup birçok cephede itilaf Gurubuyla savaşmıştır. Bu cepheler taarruz, savunma ve yardım cepheleri olarak adlandırılır. Osmanlı Devleti savunma cephelerinde Çanakkale cephesinde başarılı olmasının yanı sıra diğer bir savunma cephesi olan Irak cephesinde de Kut’ül Amâre de İngilizlere karşı başarı elde etmişse de daha sonra rehavete kapılan Osmanlı Devleti kendi askerlerini başka cephelere gönderince İngilizler tekrar toparlanarak Irak cephesinden saldırıya geçmiş ve bu cephede de yenilgi alınmıştır.

The main reason for the beginning of the war was that colonialism, the race of raw materials, as well as the arms race of the states and the blockade race between the states were the main causes of the war. The reason for this war is not that all countries in the world enter the war, but that the results of the war have a positive or negative impact on all countries in the world. The Ottoman state is one of these states. The Ottoman State, which has a strategic position in Europe despite the war, has found itself in the middle of the war alongside the Alliance Group and has fought with the Opposition Group on many fronts. These fronts are called the fronts of torture, defence and assistance. The Ottoman State was successful on the Defence Front on the Chanakkale Front as well as on the other Defence Front on the Iraqi Front on the Kut'ul Amâre also achieved success against the British, but the Ottoman State, which was later recovered, sent its soldiers to other fronts when the British were recovered and attacked from the Iraqi Front and was defeated on this front.
