Abstract:

It is believed that the identification of the characteristics of the y generation, which is inherent in the social media with what the technology age brings, will be useful in the sense of orientation to efficiency, effectiveness and productivity in the work life. In this study, the determination of the characteristics of teaching candidates who will begin their professional life within a few years is aimed at predicting the effects on the profession of social media use that has become part of daily life. In the analysis of research data, the content analysis method used frequently in quality research was preferred. The study group consists of 65 teachers registered in the training program. The research data was obtained through a semi-configured interview form. According to the research, the teaching candidates in the Y generation have ranked their personal priorities when appointed as teachers; to realize themselves, to ensure their personal development, to gain effective communication skills, equality and justice, family, order, to be a leader, responsibility consciousness, love and respect, material power, to gain reputation and help. These teacher candidates have noted that social media is often a time-thinking application. Positively, they have defined themselves as a way of updating, accessing information and effective communication. Social media has both positive and negative aspects in our lives. The teacher candidates called the Y generation may be recommended to use the positive aspects of social media and keep their negative aspects behind the professional life. The use of social media in accordance with its personal and professional priorities can also be seen as an increase in their success.
