Abstract:

It is known that the idea of progress in the rapid development of European communities, liberalism and secularism are influential factors. In the rapid rise of European civilization, capitalism and bourgeoisie play an important role. It is recognized that capitalism was born in the Portestan system of faith. The rational business and trade ethics of the Protestants have formed the spiritual foundations of capitalism in Europe. In Europe, social democracy, like capitalism, is born of Christianity. Muslim communities have been behind the European civilization for the last two centuries. The Weberyen Sabri Ülgener has suggested a path to development for Muslim communities. Ullgener has stated that it is not possible to have a healthy and sustainable development with import models that do not use human truth in all dimensions. He has argued that the solutions that are based on our national and spiritual values system, but interpreting these values according to the needs of the day and age, are the only way to get out. In this study we briefly describe capitalism, Max Weber’s socio-economic approach and social democracy. In the results of the study, it is referred to the rise of the Islamic economy and the religious-economic relationship in the Turkish society.

Abstract:

Idea of progress, liberalism and secularism were important factors responsible for the rise of European societies. Besides, the role of capitalism and the bourgeois were important in the rise of Europe. Capitalism in Europe was borned from Protestant culture. The commercial ethics of Protestants formed the basis of Capitalist spirit in Europe. Likewise Capitalism, Social Democracy also borned from religion. Muslim societies can not progress like European countries since last 200 years. A Weberian Sabri Ülgener proposes a development solution for Muslim societies. According to Sabri Ulgener, economic models which internalize national values are more realistic and healthy. He thinks that development solutions which are inspired from national culture and value system will be more successful. Besides, Ulgener thinks that economy and society should unify. This unification can be realized by only with a model which is suitable for citizens and country. According to him, every country would find his way for independence by itself but, it must be realized according to its local conditions. In this study, Capitalism, Max Weber’s “social economy” concept and social democracy is shorly explained. At the end of the study, the rise of Islamic economy and religion-economy relations in Turkish society were emphasized.
