Abstract:

The objective of the present study is to suggest various innovative solutions for development of sport education by revealing current issues with the sport education in Turkey. This study was conducted in a qualitative pattern through document analysis method. Accordingly, regarding the sport education in Turkey, various issues were determined such as sport facility, tools and equipment, insufficient financial support, low institutionalization level, adverse attitudes of school administrations, indifference of families towards physical education and sport courses, crowed classroom populations at schools and short course hours. As a result of the study, various innovative application examples were suggested in order to eliminate problems above, to increase efficiency and effectiveness of sport education in the country and to allow modernization. For instance, measures such as recruitment experienced coaches, encouraging sponsorship concept for school sport activities, establishing talent selection commissions at schools, establishing school clubs and leagues, preparation of strategic plans by school administrations and ensuring integration of European Union policies into Turkish sport education system were suggested.
