Klasik Türk edebiyatına yönelik eleştirilerden birisi –belki de en önemlisi- gündelik hayattan kopuk, tamamen hayale dayalı bir edebiyat olduğudur. Dîvanlar üzerinde yapılan çeşitli çalışmalar, bu tenkidin haksız ve acımasız olduğunu, dîvan şairlerinin, maksatlarını ifade ederken gündelik hayatta karşılaştığımız şeylerden de faydalandıklarını göstermiştir.
