Yeni iletişim teknolojilerinin gelişimi ile birlikte bireylerin bilgi edinme kanalları da artmıştır. Bilgi edinme kanallarının artması bireyleri farklı kanallara yönlendirip bilgi edinmelerini sağlamasının yanında, bazı dezavantajları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu dezavantajlardan biri de Türk Dil Kurumuna göre “bilgi çarptırma” olarak ifade edilen dezenformasyon kavramıdır. Bu kavram genel olarak, doğruluğu olmayan bilgilerin yayılması olarak bilinir. Yeni iletişim teknolojileri bu tarz bilgilerin kolayca yayılmasını sağlarken, bilgiyi edinen kişinin dünya görüşüne göre bu bilgiyi tekrar dolaşıma sokup, yeni bir süreç başlatmasına da imkân sağlamaktadır. Bireylerin yeni iletişim teknolojileri aracılığı ile edindikleri bilgileri, eleştirel bir bakış açısı ile sorgulayıp sorgulamadıkları ve yeniden üretim süreçleri araştırmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın temel amacı bireylerin, yeni iletişim teknolojilerine yönelik bilgi ve beceri sahibi olma ve yeni medyanın tehditlerine karşı farkında olma durumlarını ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında, erişim kolaylığı göz önünde bulundurularak örneklem olarak Kocaeli Üniversitesi öğrencileri tercih edilmiştir. Kocaeli Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Gazetecilik örgün ve ikinci öğretim öğrencileri araştırmaya dahil edilmiştir. Gazetecilik bölüm öğrencilerinin lisans ders içerikleri doğrultusunda, farkındalıklarının yüksek olduğu varsayılarak araştırmaya dahil edilmesi amaçlı örneklem yönteminin kullanılmasını gerekli kılmıştır. Araştırmaya dahil edilen öğrencilerin Twitter ’da karşılaştıkları haberleri/ bilgileri doğrulama ve paylaşıma sokma güdüleri anket tekniği ile incelenecektir. Anket tekniği, araştırma kapsamında %95 güven düzeyi ve %5 hata payı ile 267 kişiye uygulanacaktır.
