Abstract:

Osmanlı Türk kadınlarının kamusal yaşamda görünürleşmeye başladıkları bir süreçte Halide Edib Adıvar da eserlerinde kadınları merkeze alır. Romanlarında kadınların toplumsal yaşam içindeki rollerini sorgulayan yazar, geleneksel yaşam ile modernizm arasındaki dualiteyi de farklı perspektiflerden değerlendirir. Bu makalede Halide Edib’in Ateşten Gömlek, Vurun Kahpeye ve Yeni Turan romanlarındaki kadın karakterlerin eril tahakkümün hüküm sürdüğü mekânlarda kendilerine alan açma çabaları ele alınacaktır. Ayrıca söz konusu romanlardaki kadın karakterlerin geleneksel yapı tarafından inşa edilen kadınlık rollerini yeniden kurgulama mücadeleleri irdelenecektir.

Abstract:

At a time when Ottoman Turkish women began to become visible in public life Halide Edib Adıvar, too, gives women a central place in her works. The author who questions the roles of women in social life evaluates the tensions between the traditional way of life and modernism from various perspectives. This article focuses on the efforts of the female characters in Halide Edib’s novels “Ateşten Gömlek”, “Vurun Kahpeye” and “Yeni Turan” to find a place for themselves in the spaces where male domination prevailed. In addition it investigates the efforts of female characters in the same novels to reimagine the roles of women that are based on traditional structures.
