Türkiye coğrafi konumu, kıtalar arasında bir köprü görevi görmesi sebebiyle bugün olduğu gibi tarihin pek çok döneminde mültecilerin ilk uğradıkları ülkelerden biri olmuştur. 1917 Rus ihtilalinden sonra ülkelerini terk eden Çarlık yanlısı Ruslar, Kasım 1920’de özgürlüğün ilk durağı olarak önce Türkiye’ye sonrasında Avrupa’nın belirli şehirlerine mülteci olarak göç etmişlerdir. Rus mülteciler için öncelikle Türkiye’yi seçmelerindeki temel sebepler, kara ve deniz yoluyla en yakın ve güvenli ülke olmasının yanı sıra; diğer ülkelerin mültecileri kabul etme şartlarının ağır olmasıdır. 1918’den 1940’lara kadar Rus mülteciler İstanbul ‘ un ve sonrasında göç ettikleri Avrupa şehirlerinin sosyo-kültürel yaşamını oldukça etkilemişlerdir. The geographical location of Turkey has been one of the first countries to visit as a bridge between the continents, as it is today in many periods of history. The Tsarist Russians, who left their countries after the 1917 Russian conflict, migrated as refugees to certain cities in Europe in November 1920 as the first stop of freedom. The main reason for the Russian refugees to choose Turkey is that it is the closest and secure country on land and sea, and that the conditions for other countries to accept refugees are severe. From 1918 to 1940, Russian refugees had a great impact on the social and cultural life of the European cities they migrated from and after Istanbul. The pro-Czarist Russians who left their country behind after the Revolution of 1917 arrived to Turkey in November 1920 as their first stopover on the road to freedom, before emigrating further to cities in central Europe. The Russian emigrants chose Turkey not only because it was easily accessible by land and sea as well as safe, but also because other countries did not accept immigrants under the same conditions that Turkey did.
