Son Yıllarda Ülkemizde ve dünyada, okullarda örtük ya da açık programlara yerleştirilerek Sosyal Bilgiler, Din Kültürü, Ahlak Bilgisi ve Türkçe gibi derslerde metinler aracılığıyla değerler eğitimine önem verilmektedir. Seçilen metinlerde yer alan milli, insani ve kültürel değerler üzerinde daha ayrıntılı durularak eğitim gerçekleştirilmektedir. Bu edebi metinler içinde masallar önemli bir yere sahiptir. Masalların en önemli işlevlerinden biri masal kahramanlarıyla sunulan iyi kötü kavramlarını öğretmektir. Masal okuyan veya dinleyenler farkında olmadan masalın ait olduğu kültürünü, dilini, dinini, geleneklerini ve göreneklerini de öğrenirler. Bu araştırmada amaç Tahir Alangu’nun Keloğlan Masalları adlı kitabında yer alan masallardaki değerleri, Schwartz Değerler ölçeğine göre sınıflandırmak ve Türkçe öğretiminde önemini ortaya koymaktır.
