Kadına yönelik şiddet konulu haberlerde yer alan unsurlar, medyanın kadına yönelik şiddete bakış açısını yansıtabilmektedir. Ulusal basında kadına yönelik şiddet farklı boyutlarıyla incelenmesine rağmen, yerel basında bu konu neredeyse hiç tartışılmamıştır. Çalışmada, Sakarya İlindeki yazılı basınının kadınlara şiddet haberlerini sunarken, kadın olgusuna yaklaşımı, özendirici boyutu, şiddetin önlenmesine katkı boyutu, farkındalık oluşturma ve eğitici rolü gibi çeşitli boyutları incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda; Sakarya’daki günlük 7 yerel gazetenin 2016 yılındaki kadına yönelik şiddet haberleri taranarak içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Kadına yönelik cinsel, fiziksel, psikolojik ve ekonomik fiili şiddetin konu alındığı 62 haber incelenmiştir. Sakarya Barosu’nun verilerine göre 2016 yılında 1876 şiddet olayı yaşanırken, yerel basın bunlardan ancak 62’sini haber konusu yapmıştır. Genellikle polis bültenlerinden alınan bu haberlerde, detay verilmemesi, konunun hassasiyeti, gazete ve gazetecilerin kendini hedef haline getirmek istememesinden dolayı kadına yönelik şiddet olayları çoğu gazetelerde yer almamaktadır. Sakarya yazılı basını yayınladığı kadına yönelik şiddet haberlerinde objektif bir duruş sergilemekte, şiddeti öven, özendiren bir yaklaşım içine girmeyerek daha çok bilgilendirici boyutta kalmaktadır. Kadına şiddet haberlerinin gazete sayfalarında dikkat çekici noktalarda bulunmaması, sıradan ve münferit bir olay gibi algılanarak yüzeysel geçilmesi ve tek sütun haber olarak verilmesi, kadına yönelik şiddetin önlenmesinde eleştirel, araştırmacı ve eğitici yazılara yer verilmemesi Sakarya basınının kadına yönelik şiddet haberlerini sunarken önemli bir eksikliği olarak görülmüştür.

News items regarding the violence against women may give us insights about the approach of media towards women. Although this issue has been handled within the context of the national media in Turkey the studies about the local media are none. Therefore, this PhD thesis examined how local media (printed) covered the violence against women and how they conveyed it to the public Sakarya province of Turkey. The study specifically analyzed how printed media in Sakarya covered the issue in terms of impartiality, if they have encouragement elements, how they represent the gender issues, whother the printed media take a teaching role and if they contribute the efforts regarding preventing the violence against women. In this regard, 62 news items in 2016 about the violence against women in seven (7) dailies in Sakarya has been examined through content analysis. However, according to the official stats, although there occurred 1876 attacks against women in 2016 in Sakarya, the printed media only covered 62 of them. The journalistic pre-approaches such as not being a target of the issue and the sensitivity of the events might have caused the local media to keep their distance with those news items. Nevertheless, it is possible to state that the media in Sakarya while representing the events about the violence against the women has been impartial and informative with no encouragement or credits to those issues. On the other hand, the rarity of the news items about the violence, the dabbling coverage and the shortage of informative observations shows the lack of importance given to the violence against woman.
