Abstract:

In our study, we have studied how violence against women is placed in the media, how violence is legalized/normalized through the language of the news. When the news of violence against women is transmitted in the press, it is necessary to feel the social responsibility of the subject and move in this direction with a sense of responsibility. The results of the "striking" expressions used in the titles are discussed while presenting such news in order to be sensational and more interested in our research. Although violence against women is a global problem, it is becoming an increasingly surface wound in our country. In our research, we will analyze the quality of news of violence against women. The study will first put on the table the global dimensions of violence against women and the rapid increase in Turkey. Then, taking into account the power of the media in this matter, the news published between 1 November and 1 December 2018 on the Hürriyet, Sabah and Post internet newspapers sites was reviewed. The research was carried out on social reward in the context of the "theory of bread" of the titles selected while presenting news of violence to women. The words selected in the titles used when transmitting news of violence to women, language and uslub are detailed. Because the subject is quite sensitive, it is important to be objective in the presentation of the news and to avoid sensational expressions to the point of view that people who are subjected to violence do not receive a secondary wound. The study found that the three newspapers published on the internet were scored to be more sensational and the sensitivity of the subject was neglected.
