Bu çalışmanın amacı eğitim fakültesi öğrencilerinin kitap okumaya ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemeye yönelik geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek geliştirmektir. Ölçek geliştirilirken öncelikle ilgili alanyazın taranmış ve madde havuzunu oluşturmaya katkısı olması amacıyla hedef kitlenin bir bölümüne konu ile ilgili düşüncelerini ifade edebilecekleri bir kompozisyon yazdırılmıştır. Alanyazın taraması ve hedef kitlenin kompozisyonları sonucunda elde edilen verilerden yola çıkılarak 40 maddelik bir madde havuzu oluşturulmuştur. Kapsam geçerliliğini gerçekleştirmek amacıyla bu maddeler 6 alan uzmanının görüşüne sunulmuştur. Sonuç olarak 19’u olumlu, 12’si olumsuz ifade içeren toplam 31 maddelik bir tutum ölçeği elde edilmiştir. Ölçek çalışması, 2014-2015 eğitim öğretim yılında Muğla Sıtkı Koçman Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören 210 birinci sınıf ve 260 dördüncü sınıf olmak üzere toplam 470 öğretmen adayı ile yapılmıştır. Yapı geçerliğini belirlemek için Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi (AFA) ile Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi kullanılmıştır. AFA sonuçlarına göre 23 maddeden oluşan üç faktörlü (kitap okumaya istek ve ihtiyaç duyma, kitap okumayı yararlı bulma ve kitap okumayı zorunluluk olarak görme) yapı varyansın % 51’ini açıklamıştır. DFA sonuçlarına göre ise üç faktörlü yapının iyi uyum değerleri ürettiği görülmüştür. Ölçeğin madde-toplam puan korelasyonlarının .30 ile .78 arasında değiştiği belirlenmiş ve Cronbach’s Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0.91 olarak bulunmuştur. Faktör analizi sonrasında yapılan güvenirlik çözümlemesi kapsamında ölçeğin Spearman-Brown korelasyon katsayısı ile Guttman Split-halff güvenirlik katsayısı hesaplanmış ve yapılan güvenirlik analizinde ölçek 12 ve 11 madde olmak üzere iki gruba ayrılmıştır. Her iki grup arasındaki korelasyon katsayısı 0.82 olarak bulunmuştur. Yapılan analizler sonucunda ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

The purpose of the current study is to develop a valid and reliable scale to determine the attitudes of education faculty students’ towards book reading habit. While developing the scale, first a literature review was done and some students from the target population were made to write compositions to express their opinions about the issue to make some contributions to the formation of an item pool. On the basis of the literature review and the compositions written by some members of the target population, an item pool was constructed. In order to establish the content validity, these items were submitted to the scrutiny of 6 field experts. As a result, an attitude scale comprised of 19 positive and 12 negative, totally 31 items, was developed. The scale was administered to 210 first year and 260 fourth year students, totally 470 students from the departments of Turkish Language Teaching, Pre-school Teacher Education, English Language Teaching, Classroom Teacher Education and Science Teacher Education at the Education Faculty of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University in 2014-2015 academic year. In order to test the construct validity, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used. The 23-item three-factor construct obtained as a result EFA (feeling desire and need to read book, findings book reading beneficial and feeling obliged to read book) explains 51% o the total variance. CFA results revealed that the three-factor construct yields good fit values. The item-total score correlations of the scale were found to be varying between .30 and .78 and the Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient was found to be 0.91. Within the context of the reliability analysis conducted following the factor analysis, Spearman-Brown correlation coefficient and Guttman Split-half reliability coefficient of the scale were calculated and as a result of the reliability analysis, the scale was divided into two with 12 items in one and 11 items in the other. The correlation coefficient between the two groups was found to be 0.82. All the measurements conducted indicated that the scale is reliable.
