“Bütün çeviriler, kaynak metnin belli bir amaç için bir şekilde manipüle edildiğini ima eder”, “Çeviri politik bir eylemdir”, “Çeviri ideolojiden ayrı düşünülemez” gibi ifadeler iddialı ifadeler olarak görünebilir. Ancak pratikteki uygulamaları düşündüğümüzde, çevirilerin objektif bir şekilde yapıldığı veya çevirmenlerin çeviri yaparken çeviri metni manipüle etmedikleri yanılsamasından daha gerçekçi olduklarını görüyoruz. Bu çalışmada yüzde yüz objektif bir çevirinin mümkün olmadığını, çeviri sürecinde çeviri faaliyetini etkileyen ve bu faaliyet sonucunda ortaya çıkan nihaî çeviri metninin son şeklini almasında rol alan aktörler ve faktörleri film çeviri metinlerini baz alarak incelemeye çalıştık. Kuramsal çerçeve olarak Hans Vermeer ile Katharina Reiss’ın geliştirdikleri Skopos teorisini kullandığımız bu çalışmada, çeviri metnin son şeklini almasında çevirinin hangi işlev için kullanılacağının belirleyici olduğunu ve çeviriyi yönlendiren bazı unsurların varlığını göstermeye çalıştık. Sonuçta her çeviride olduğu gibi film çevirilerinde de çeviriyi yönlendiren bazı manipülatif unsurların olduğunu ve çevirmenlerin metinleri manipüle etmek için bazı yöntemlere başvurduklarını görmüş olduk. Çeviri faaliyetini yönlendiren başlıca unsurlar işveren, çevirmen, toplum ve devlettir. Çevirmenler edebiyat çevirilerinde olduğu gibi film çevirilerinde de metni manipüle etmek için başlıca dört manipülasyon yöntemine başvurmaktadır. Bunlar atlama, ekleme, değiştirme ve yumuşatmadır. Bu tür manipülatif ve sansürcü uygulamalar sadece totaliter, baskıcı rejimlere mahsus bir uygulama değildir. Liberal ve demokratik yönetimlerde de bu tür uygulamalara rastlanmaktadır.
"All translations indicate that the source text is manipulated in some way for a specific purpose," "Translation is a political action," "Translation is unthinkable from the ideology," such expressions may appear as ambitious expressions. But when we consider practical applications, we see that they are more realistic than the misconception that translations are done objectively or that translators do not manipulate the translation text while translating. In this study, a hundred percent objective translation is not possible, we tried to study the actors and factors that influence the translation activity in the translation process and play the role in taking the final form of the native translation text that arises as a result of this activity based on the film translation text. In this study we used the Skopos theory developed by Hans Vermeer and Katharina Reiss as a theoretical framework, we tried to demonstrate the existence of some elements that directed the translation and that the translation will be used for the final form of the translation text. After all, as in every translation, we’ve seen some manipulative elements that direct the translation in film translations, and translators are using some methods to manipulate the texts. The main elements that guide the translation activity are the employer, the translator, the society and the state. As in literary translations, translators also use the four main methods of manipulation to manipulate the text in film translations. These are jumping, adding, changing and softening. Such manipulative and censoring practices are not just a practice of the totalitarian, oppressive regimes. Liberal and democratic governments are in such a way.
“All translation implies a degree of manipulation of the source text for a certain purpose”, “Translation is political act”, “Translation cannot be thought apart from ideology” statements like these might sound assertive. But when we think of real life practices, we see that they are more realistic than the illusion that translations are done objectively or that translators do not manipulate the target text while translating. In this study, we tried to investigate the fact that a hundred percent objective translation is not possible, and we also studied the actors and factors that influence the translation activity in the translation process and play an important part in shaping the final target text based on audiovisual translation texts. As the theoretical framework, we used Skopos theory developed by Hans Vermeer and Katharina Reiss. We tried to show that for which function translation text to be used is a determining factor, and the existence of certain elements which direct translation. As a result, we have seen that there are some manipulative elements in the translation of the audiovisual texts, as in every translation, and that translators resort to some methods to manipulate the texts. The main elements directing the translation activity are the employer, the translator, the society and the state. Translators resort to four major manipulation methods to manipulate the text in the translation of the film texts as it is in literary translation. These are omission, adding, substitution and toning down or softening. Such manipulative and censorial practices are not only specific to totalitarian, repressive regimes. Liberal and democratic governments also resort to such practices.
