Abstract:

Throughout history, it is possible to say that coups occurred at various times because of different reasons. The rationale of coups had changed according to the circumstances of time. For example, some of the coups occurred for boarding the brave and warrior rulers before Islam. After Islam, religious threatening elements were the reason for coups. The coups occurred at different times and because of different reasons in the Turkish history. In the Ottoman history, military coups have frequently been resulted in the deposition of the sultan and some of the sultans have been killed afterwards. Historically, the coups occurred during: II. Bayezid, II. (Genç) Osman, I. Mustafa, Sultan İbrahim, IV. Mehmed, II. Mustafa, III. Ahmed, III. Selim, IV. Mustafa, Sultan Abdülaziz, V. Murad and finally II. Abdülhamid and those sultans were deposited as a result of military coups or rebellions. From these, II. Bayezid, II. Osman, Sultan İbrahim, III. Selim, IV. Mustafa and Sultan Abdülaziz were killed after the deposition The dethronement of Abdülaziz is the first coup attempt of the Young Ottomans. The coup has not solved any of the problems and it further caused worsening of the situation. The people who enthroned V. Murad had to dethrone him and they had to settle with II. Abdülhamid. The coups were inherited from Ottoman Empire to Turkish Republic, the subsequent of Ottoman Empire. The history of the Turkish Republic, which has not yet completed the age of 100, has witnessed numerous coups and coup attempts.
