Abstract:

In this study, it was tried to determine whether or not the classroom management competence of teachers and their attitudes towards the profession of teaching significantly predicted their job satisfaction. The study was conducted in the relational screening model. Target population of the study consisted of 181 classroom teachers working in the county town of Gölbaşı, which is among the county towns of Ankara province, in the spring term of the school year of 2014-2015. No sampling was performed in the study and all the teachers were tried to be reached and in the end, 72% of the population could be reached. Classroom management competence scale (CMCS), which was developed by the researcher (2009) in an attempt to determine the classroom management competence of teachers, was used in the study. Before using the scale, a pilot application was performed on totally 400 students (300 female and 100 male) receiving education in the senior class of Gazi University Faculty of Education for the purpose of updating the scale and reevaluating the psychometric features of the scale. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were applied for the purpose of determining the construct validity of the scale involving totally 47 items. While the reliability of the scale was examined via the Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient and corrected item total correlation; the significance of the differences between item averages of 27% supergroups and subgroups was examined via the t test. As a result of the analyses, it was observed that the scale protected its five-factor structure and its psychometric features remained within convenient values. We also used an attitude scale that was developed by Çetin (2006) for the purpose of determining the attitudes of teachers towards the profession of teaching and the attitudes of preservice teachers towards the profession of teaching and then revised to be used on behalf of teachers, and an occupational satisfaction scale that was developed by Kuzgun, Sevim and Hamamcı (2005) for the purpose of determining the job satisfaction of teachers. The study findings show that there are positively significant relationships between the classroom management competence of teachers, their attitudes towards the profession of teaching and job satisfaction. According to the results of the regression analysis, on the other hand; classroom management competence of teachers significantly predict job satisfaction.
