Ortaöğretim Öğrencilerinin Günümüz Dünya Sorunlarına Yönelik Tutumları (Karabük İli Merkez İlçesi Örneklemi)

Teknoloji yoluyla iletişimin hızlı bir şekilde sağlandığı günümüzde, ulusların yaşadığı pek çok sorun evrensel boyuta taşınmıştır. Büyük kitleleri ilgilendiren bu önemli sorunların çözülmesi için bir dünya vatandaşı olarak hareket etmek, ortak kararlar almak ve uluslar arası işbirliği yapmak gerekmektedir. Çözümün bir parçası olma yolunda ihtiyaç duyulan bilincin kazandırılması için, okullarda verilen eğitim ve öğretim büyük etkiye sahiptir. Ortaöğretim programlarından özellikle coğrafya dersi kapsamında pek çok günümüz dünya sorununa değinilmektedir. Bu bağlamda coğrafya eğitimi, öğrencileri bilgilendirme ve farkındalık yaratma noktasında hassas bir role sahiptir. Küresel olarak ele alınan sorunlar hep çevre ile sınırlı kalmıştır. Bu düşüncelerden hareketle yapılan bu araştırmada, ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin günümüz dünya sorunlarına yönelik tutumlarını cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi, okul türü ve alan bilgisi değişkenleri açısından değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma için 2012-2013 öğretim yılında Karabük ili Merkez ilçesindeki 3 ortaöğretim okulunda öğrenim gören 478 öğrenciden görüş alınmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Günümüz Dünya Sorunları Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılmış ve tarama modeli uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde frekans, yüzde değerleri, aritmetik ortalama, bağımsız örneklemler t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin günümüz dünya sorunlarına yönelik tutumları olumlu ve yüksek düzeyde bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, çalışmaya katılan ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin günümüz dünya sorunlarına yönelik tutumlarının cinsiyet ve sınıf düzeyi değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği; okul türü ve alan bilgisi değişkenlerine göre ise anlamlı farklılık göstermediği belirlenmiştir.

Nowadays, when communication through technology is rapidly provided, many of the problems that the nations are experiencing have moved to the universal dimension. It is necessary to act as a world citizen, to make joint decisions, and to make international cooperation, in order to solve these major problems that concern large masses. To gain the necessary consciousness in the way to be part of the solution, education and teaching given in schools has a great impact. Many of the high school programs, especially in the field of geography, are addressed to the world's problems today. In this context, geography education has a sensitive role in informing and creating awareness of students. The problems addressed globally have always been limited to the environment. This study, based on these ideas, aims to evaluate the attitudes of high school students towards the contemporary world issues in terms of gender, class level, school type and field knowledge variables. For study in the 2012-2013 teaching year, 478 students who studied in 3 secondary schools in Karabük or Central District were viewed. The data collection tool was used as the "Today's World Problems Attitude Scale" and the scan model was implemented. Data analysis used frequency, percentage values, arithmetic average, independent samples t-test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA). As a result, the attitudes of high school students towards today’s world issues have been positive and high. In addition, it was determined that the attitudes of high school students to the contemporary world issues differ significantly according to the variables of gender and class level; and that the variables of school type and field knowledge do not differ significantly according to the variables.

In the present day, depending communication is rapidly provided through technology, many problems that come over the nations are moved into global dimension. In order to solve these important problems regarding all of mankind, it is required to behave as a world citizen, to take co-desicions, and to make international cooperations. Education and schooling that are given in schools are very effective to be gained the consciousness that is necessary for being a part of the solution. It is referred many contemporary world issues, especially within the scope of geography course among secondary school curricula. In this context, geography education has an essential role in the point of informating and awareness raising on students. The problems which were dealt with globally are limited to the environment so far. By moving from these ideas, in this research, it is targeted to evaluate the attitudes of secondary school students towards contemporary world issues in terms of gender, grade level, school type, and subject area knowledge variables. The study group of the research is 478 secondary school students who attend 3 different schools in Central district of Karabuk province during the 2012-2013 spring semester. In the study, “An Attitude Scale Intended for Contemporary World Issues” was used and survey method was performed as the data collection tool. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, independent samples t-test and one way variance analysis (ANOVA) were used for the analysis of the data. According to the findings of the research, it is found that the attitudes of secondary school students were positive and at the high level towards contemporary world issues. In addition, the research students’ attitudes towards contemporary world issues did not indicate significant difference according to school type and subject area knowledge, but indicated a significant difference according to gender and grade level.
