Abstract:

In Turkey, the democratic parliamentary order is present with all the institutions, and the referendum process is perceived as a political preference. Therefore, from the point of view of political parties, the referendum process involves propaganda activities as a trial to persuade the political preferences of the people and to vote. Today, work of functional importance, such as creating interest in the referendum, providing the flow of information and forming the political behavior of the election, is carried out through social media in the framework of political communication. This study was conducted with the aim of revealing how political parties use political communication activities from their corporate Twitter accounts through content analysis. The findings from the study show that political parties frequently use Twitter to make political sharing, and that they think social media is important for political communication. The findings of the study show that political parties use Twitter to ensure the flow of political information, and that the topics often focused on in the messages that political parties make from their corporate Twitter accounts point to the priorities of political parties. The study emphasizes Twitter’s relationship with political communication as an investigation in the process of the 2017 Turkish Constitution Amendment Referendum.
