Abstract:

The issue of population is one of the core subjects of geography study. The population in Turkey has been counted since 1927. From 1927 to today, the population of Turkey has continuously increased, and in certain periods the rate of population growth has changed. The theory of demographic transformation refers to the transition from the phase in which the fertility and death rates of all societies are high to the phase in which both are low. Turkey, along with the 2000s, has passed to the third stage of the demographic transformation theory. Turkey continues to age with low fertility and mortality rates. To better analyze the population and to identify the demographic transformation of Turkey, the characteristics of the population (age structure/group, gender status, educational status, household population size, the distribution of workers according to the economic sector, rural-city population ratio) have been studied with this study. 2017 Address-based Population Calculation Results Compared to 2040 and 2060 population projections, the future demographic opportunities and what to be done in this context are revealed.
