With the influence of the Westernization/Modernization initiatives and the newspapers and magazines that support this initiative, great changes have occurred in the social life of the Ottoman State; the women's topic, the role of the woman and the perception of the woman in society, which will gain a different dimension with the Republic, has begun to change for the first time in this period. Parallel to the Westernization/Modernization efforts, the increasing freedom, family life and change in home order in women and men’s relationships has also entered the topics of the Turkish narrative (history and novel) from Tanzimat. Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who has an important part in his settlement in Turkish literature as a kind, has often put in his novels the negative things that the perception of superficial westernization/modernization reveals in the social life (conflicts and ridicules, artificial and subsequent sights, etc.) and their reflections in daily life. The author’s 1882 novel “Vah” is one of the novels on the moral degeneration that arises as a result of the wrong Westernization, in the framework of women’s and men’s relationships and around a female hero. This article will be evaluated in the axis of the novel elements (such as case, person, time, space and narrative) of Ahmet Mithat Efendi as an example of a female-centric change in the Turkish novel; the novel will be examined with the method of feminist literary criticism, such as a look at the woman, the address of the woman's issue, the values and definitions towards the woman.
