Erzurum Castle was built by the Eastern Roman Empire near the Sassanid border at the end of the 4th century or the beginning of 5th century, it had been the scene of the struggle for the domination of various nations and exposed to some great destructions some of this destructions was so large scale required to rebuilt it. Romans, Seljuks, Saltukids, Ottomans and the Russians most important states contributed to the physical condition of Erzurum Castle. During Ottoman period new elements were added to classical castle structure. However, except for certain parts of the citadel, some parts vanished during the Ottoman period. In this article, transformations of castle during the Ottoman period, some unknown elements of Erzurum Castle, will be evaluated in the light of the new documents we have obtained
