Abstract:

Remote translation, as in other parts of the world, has begun to show its existence in the verbal translation field in Turkey. From an educational point of view, the new media/tech concept becomes an important component of general discussions in the field of written and verbal translation. Technology and information technologies are set as a priority by the Bologna Process, where Turkey is also trying to adapt the higher education system. In this context, the inclusion of new media and technology through methods such as remote translation and e-learning is an important element in our agenda. This article aims to provide an overview of the role and use of remote translation in the vocal translator education in Turkey. As a specific type of new media, the share of remote translation is considered in connection with the oral translator training programme in Turkish academic institutions. In this study, which uses an imaginative and entirely resolving method, Turkey aims to reveal the possible future effects and advice on the application and training of the oral translation field. This study takes remote translation as a point of movement and suggests that the oral translation training programmes in the educational institutions in Turkey are not yet well structured towards this new media age.
