As a main discourse resource, media narratives and particularly news play a special role in construction and representation of nations and national identities. Thus, in order to comprehend how Turkey and Turkish identity are constructed and represented in Western media, news discourse strategies should be analyzed. The article addresses the issue of essentially Orientalistic construction and representation of Turkey and Turkish identity in the British daily newspapers The Guardian and The Times. The study argues that liberal and conservative newspapers both reproduce Orientalist discourse which represents Turkey as a space and culture that is out of Europe and theTurkish identity as outgroup. Orientalist discourse that is accommodated in The Guardian and The Times is clear in referential strategy or strategy of nomination and predication strategy of the news' discourse.
