Abstract:

The province Sivas had a very significant position in the textile industry during the periods of Seljuks, Ottomans and Republic. The textile industry as one of the most important economic sectors of the region which was suitable to the climate and sociocultural structure of the region was developed in that province. Many types of weaving such as carpets, rugs, curtains, cords, aba, serge, woven felt, socks, scarves, sheets, runners and also many hand weaving fabrics were manufactured in Sivas. Works in these areas gained a high rate of popularity both in Turkey and abroad. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the textile industry and its development in the province of Sivas between the periods the Ottoman to Republic and to present the impacts of aforementioned activities on both economic and social life of the province
