Öğrencilerin Kültürlerarası Duyarlılık ve Kültürel Zekâya İlişkin Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı kültürlerarası duyarlılık ve kültürel zekâ arasındaki ilişkilerin Türk ve uluslararası öğrenci görüşlerine göre incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Türkiye genelindeki üniversitelerde eğitim gören 337 Türk ve uluslararası öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Nicel araştırma yöntemleriyle desenlenen araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak “Kültürlerarası Duyarlılık Ölçeği” ve “Kültürel Zekâ” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerden toplanan veriler aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, t-testi, ANOVA, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, Pearson korelasyon ve regresyon analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Bulgular Türk ve uluslararası öğrencilerin kültürlerarası duyarlılık puan ortalamasının orta, kültürel zekâ puan ortalamasının ise yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Bulgular aynı zamanda Türk ve uluslararası öğrencilerin kültürlerarası duyarlılık ve kültürel zekâ algı düzeylerinin yaş, eğitim durumu ve öğrencinin uyruğuna göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediğini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Uluslararası öğrencilerin kültürel zekâ algı düzeyleri cinsiyete göre farklılaşmazken, Türk öğrencilerin kültürel zekâ algı düzeylerinin cinsiyete göre farklılaştığı görülmüştür. Pearson korelasyon analizi sonuçları değişkenler arasında anlamlı, pozitif ve orta düzeyde bir ilişkinin olduğunu göstermiştir. Regresyon analizi ise, kültürlerarası duyarlılığın kültürel zekânın anlamlı bir yordayıcısı olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır.

The aim of this study is to study the relations between intercultural sensitivity and cultural intelligence according to the Turkish and international student views. The study’s work group consists of 337 Turkish and international students studying at universities throughout Turkey during the spring year 2016-2017. The research, designed by Nicel research methods, used the "Intercultural Sensitivity Scale" and "Cultural Intelligence" scale as a data collection tool. The data collected from students are analyzed by arithmetic average, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, verifying factor analysis, Pearson correlation and regression analysis. The findings showed that the average intercultural sensitivity score of Turkish and international students is medium and the average cultural intelligence score is high. The findings also revealed that the levels of inter-cultural sensitivity and cultural intelligence of Turkish and international students do not make any significant differences according to age, educational status and the student's behavior. While international students’ levels of cultural intelligence do not differ by gender, Turkish students’ levels of cultural intelligence do not differ by gender. Pearson's correlation analysis results showed that there was a meaningful, positive and medium-level relationship between the variables. Regression analysis has shown that inter-cultural sensitivity is a meaningful contributor to cultural intelligence.

Abstract:

This study aimed to examine students’ views on intercultural sensitivity and cultural intelligence. 337 Turkish and international students who study at three public universities in Ankara have participated in the research. Study designed with quantitative research methods and relational screening model was used. Data were collected by "Intercultural Sensitivity" and "Cultural Intelligence” scale. The results showed that Turkish and international students’ perception levels on intercultural sensitivity were moderate and on cultural intelligence were high. While students’ perception levels on variables didn’t differ according to age, educational level and student's nationality, there were differences according to sex. In the results, it was seen that there was a meaningful correlation between the variables and that intercultural sensitivity was a significant predictor of cultural intelligence.
