A military coup was attempted on 15th July 2016 in Turkey. The military coup attempted by FETÖ terrorist group (Gülen movement) failed thanks to mass reaction of Turkish people against the event. During the coup, many citizens died and the effects of this coup attempt, which has deeply affected Turkish public opinion, lasted for months. This coup attempt is important because it is the first coup attempt to be blocked by the people for the first time in the Turkish military history. As a result of this coup attempt eliminating the democracy, both people and politicians gathered together in common purpose and they fought against the coup attempt together. In the face of this coup attempt that affects the whole of Turkey, how much and how has the news of the Turkish press been framed in newspaper pages? This question sets forth the purpose of the study. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine how the news about the coup has been framed in newspapers of the Turkish national press after the July 15 coup attempt to blocking the democracy. The first pages were analyzed in the study of all national newspapers between 16-22 July 2016. The most appropriate ‘news framing’ method was used for the purpose of the study.
