Being a Polish writer and orientalist, Osip Ivanovich Senkovsky took place in Russian literature as a second degree writer. Senkovsky, engaging in journalistic activities beside academic and literary works, became famous in Russian journalism with “Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya”, editorship of which he conducted. And Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya took its place among journals, having the widest circulation. Famous writers of that period like A. A. Pushkin, V. F. Odoyevsky, M. Yu. Lermontov, A. A. Bestujev-Marlinsky wrote in this journal, too. Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya, aiming to appeal not only to a determined segment but also to every segment of society, drew attention with its program and content; and received both positive and negative reactions of the writers of that period. In this paper, the place of Senkovsky and Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya in Russian journalism will be examined in the light of his contemporaries’ critics.
