One of the main problems of socialist realism which sourced from the socialist woldview is the problem emerging while evaluating the works of an author from a different worldview. The hazards of considering the work of a non-socialist realist author as unworthy and nonliterary were rather overcome by “critical realism” which was generated by famous Marxist critic George Lukács. The fact that Lukács thought ‘realist writers who don’t have a socialist worldview like Tolstoy, Balzac, also reflect the inequality, unfairness, injustice, class conflict of their environment and society by an objective, sincere and honest wording and realist perspective’ reminded us of Mehmet Akif in the case of Turkish literature. We can say that many significant facts will be revealed, if the socialist relist critics regard Mehmet Akif from this point of view. It is intrinsically revealed in Mehmet Akif’s poetry that a nonsocialist-realist writer can also reflect the flaws, the crisis, the conflicts of his period with a critical realist perspective.
