Abstract:

Abstract The confrontation of Turkish literature with the 'novel' type has been with the Tanzimat. Writing and reading "literary novel" requires a certain process and culture accumulation. In contrast, "popular novel" appeals to people from all walks of life, does not take much time to read, and is often consumed quickly. It is accepted that such novels have an undeniable place in our literature. In the literary novels, aesthetic worry and concern of the art are mentioned, whereas in the popular roman mostly commercial anxiety is the front plan. In addition, aesthetic and art concerns are not so much. It can be said that it is aimed at moving the emotion and excitement rather than the idea of reading it. It is impossible to think of the novel apart from the society because the narrator and the segment it addresses is a part of society. Therefore, it is not possible for society's values, problems and dreams to be reflected in the novel. Whether it is literary or popular, the situation does not differ. The difference is in functioning and presentation. Therefore, it is of great importance to study novels from a social psychological point of view. Reşat Nuri Güntekin, one of the most important novelists of the Republican era, works in his Çalıkuşu novel by relating his educational problems to a literary novel. The narrator has acted in a social situation such as the view of society towards a educated and modern woman in the years when the Republic was newly established. In Canan Tan's Piraye, the main hero is again a educated feminine. The psychological situation of the spouse of a different culture is presented to the reader. Both romans have a conflict with what should be. It is the message that the narrator wants to convey, embodied by the hero of the novels that should be. As opposed to this, there is a social problem. Both novels arise from the tension between the two. In addition, both romans have elements that distinguish between literary novels and popular novels, such as the ways in which they are handled and the way they are expressed. In this article, the social types, behaviors of the groups, the role of the main characters in the mentioned works are examined and an explanation is given in terms of social psychology in terms of popular novel - aesthetic novel.
