So many results that aren't mine?

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to determine how to apply the 5E learning cycle model on teaching Social studies course designed using action research method. The model has been aimed to determine changes of learning cycle model applications in students’ social, affective development and cognitive learning outcomes. The research was conducted over a period of 11 weeks in the 5th grade Social studies course units, “Step by Step Turkey” and “Exploring our own Region”. In the study, semi-structure interviews gathered students’ views before and after implementation of the action plan; also structured observation were used regularly during the application. The students conducted interviewed were determined to maximum variation sampling method. Filednotes gathered through observations and students’ views were analyzed with the content analysis technique. Problems were identified through observations and students’ views before application in the study thus, an action plan was prepared to solve these problems. The results find that activities of 5E learning cycle model increased students’ level of motivation, and positively effected their thoughts and feelings regarding the course. Students pointed out teaching activities were enthusiastic and Social Studies courses were more enjoyable longer. Meaningful learning outcomes and higher levels of retention occurred in students; therefore developing metacognitive their strategies after the action plan. In addition, in the learning process, significant changes in social interaction and communication such as cooperation, respect, work-sharing, positive peer relationships, exchange of views, leadership, and articulate thoughts were found.
