Abstract:

Northern Mythology and Legends have survived with poems and songs between only Northern societies especially after the spread of Christianity on Northern lands at the end of 10th century. But, Northern mythological components were remembered again and they became the elements of popular culture. Throughout history, Northern Mythology has been utilized. The date which “The Sleeping Beauty” was written is 1697. For spreading the German nationalism, Richard Wagner, whose songs were used for propagating, made use of Northern myths, too. Northern myths became almost a locomotive of popular culture in 20th century. Its impressions still continue. In this research, we will try to explain how the reflections of Northern culture to today’s world and how was the life of Northern societies by giving examples from myths of the era. Also, mythological components of the period, basic units of Northern religion and the effects of Christianity are examined in this research.
