Abstract:

This study will study the changes and transformations that the phenomenon of religion and identity is experiencing in the process of modernization. Modernization has made the sphere of religion quite narrow; it has also brought questions about the role of religion in the construction of social identity.  With modernization, people have entered a new process by breaking off their traditional patterns and structures. The prediction, expressed by the theory of secularization, that the influence of religion will weaken and even completely disappear as societies develop, has made the role of religion in the construction of social identity controversial. Furthermore, the failure of this process to happen as expected has led to the formation of a wounded conscious state in people. The aim of the study is to show that religion can play an effective role in the integration of fragile identities arising from modernization.
