Abstract:

The concept of strategic analysis could be applied to both profit and non profit organizations because basic elements of this concept develop strategies leading to short and long term success for every type of organizations In this study; the main aim is to apply this concept to the public banks in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus TRNC Therefore SWOT analysis Strengths S Weaknesses W Opportunities O and Threats T has been conducted and strategies for the public banks within the framework of TRNC’s probable European Union EU membership have been developed As a result of this study it is found out that public banks in the TRNC would have important weaknesses and would be faced with serious threats in the light of forthcoming EU membership Therefore vital measures which are derived as a result of the strategic analysis should be implemented particularly in the field of capital adequacy and technological level of local banks including public banks Moreover either autonomy or private statue should be given to public banks in order to improve their competitive power at the international context Keywords: TRNC Public Banks Strategic Analysis EU
