Abstract:

Oguz Atay’s novel ‘The Unsettled’ Tutunamayanlar 1971 1972 is considered one of the most important novels in Turkish literature It is a novel which brings attention to itself because it uses many modernist techniques and because of its multi layered struc ture Oguz Atay discusses incomparably and ironically the Turkish intellectuals’ strug gle to survive and the reasons for their alienation In this article the humour satire and irony that is sovereign in the novel is examined; the contribution of the irony to the novel the variation of and the reason for using humour and satire are also analysed
