The conquest of Istanbul was a turning point for the madrasas and with Fatih Kanunname the madrasas were divided into various degrees according to courses taught and the lecturers’ wages. Bayazid II. who succeeded Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, paid in'âm in significant amounts to lecturers from state budget beside making madrasa on its own behalf.
