The civil administration in Edirne was taken over by the Garrison Command with 27 May 1960 coup. Orhan Ergüder, who served as the military governor, remained in this post until 14 June 1960. Until June 14th, a series of prohibitions were introduced by the communiques issued almost daily by him and these prohibitions were softened gradually. There were celebrations of May 27th in the center and districts of Edirne and campaigns were started for the adoption of the movement by the public. Immediately after the May 27 coup d’état, Democratic Party (DP) Edirne Deputies were arrested and tried in Yassıada courts with their testimonies being taken.
