Information Technologies (IT) are expected to make a considerable impact on the government and other fields of society. In the first part of this study, those expectations are discussed with respect to “organizational development” and “productivity”. In the light of conclusions drawn through those discussions, the second part of the study particularly dwells on the means to achieve IT transformation in Turkish Public Administration. Suggestions developed in the study were categorized under four headings: “IT Strategy and Coordination Unit”; “Public Administration Information System”; “Smart Cards” and “Interactive Government Portal”. By means of this inclusive strategy, Turkish Public Administration will most likely gain a new impetus in catching up with the standards of Information Society.
