Abstract:

Sezai Karakoç, among the leading poets of the Second New and Islamic discourse of the Republic period is one of the distinguished writers in Turkish poetry. Sezai Karakoç, founder of the Diriliş movement which has been identified with his name, has influenced our way of thinking. Having produced works reflecting his sense of art and personality, Karakoç has given importance to customs, traditions and life styles. Accordingly, he uses expressions sanctioned by the society in his poems while he doesn’t include taboos that are not sanctioned by the society. In this study, we try to figure out what kind of narrative style the writer uses in his poems and whether this style reflects folk tradition or his own style of writing. Karakoç, who uses euphemisms having literary value and used by the society, has taken a place in our culture. He uses expressions such as vanishing off the face of the earth, holy people, gins evil spirits visiting puerperant women in superstitious belief, based on taboos about fear. He uses putting a saddle on a horse, transcending, chiming clocks, laying underground, perishing, wooden horse, passing away, transmigrate the souls and gravestone instead of death; resigning reason, instead of insanity; committing adultery and prostitute for the concepts about sexuality; being caught short for the need for toilet. Obviously, the works of Karakoç has been influenced by his environment
