Abstract:

Abstract enThe social and economic problems experienced today present themselves as stress factors on individuals. Throughout their educational life, students also are faced with various sources of stress and display various behaviors so as to overcome the stress. The study made an attempt to determine the attitudes of students towards overcoming the stress. “Inventory of Attitudes towards Overcoming the Stress” was used as data collection instrument. The population of the study is a total of 2220 students studying at the Faculty of Trade and Tourism Education, Gazi University during the Educational Year 2008-2009. The sample diameter of the study consists of 509 students. The study concluded that seeking for external assistance and avoidance-isolation (biochemical) dimensions of the attitudes towards overcoming the stress displayed statistically meaningful difference depending on gender; avoidance-isolation dimension (biochemical) on gender; tendency to religion and avoidance-isolation (biochemical) dimensions on the department, grade and amount of allowance and active planning and receiving external assistance dimensions on grade point average.
